The BBB is a relatively young organisation seeking to improve access for ALL to reserves, facilities and services for birding. including trying to source funding from local authorities and other organisations where needed
If you LOVE BIRDING and can help other less fortunate, whether financially or by disability this is the site for you. We aim to provide a network of Members who are willing and able to HELP others pursue Birding around the UK and eventually Worldwide
We would never want to compromise the needs of birds or other wildlife with our push to get better access for people. However with better design and fore thought in the design of new and updating established Reserves and open spaces it is our aim to allow EVERYONE to enjoy BIRDING. This is shown at Attenborough Nature Reserve NWT where the whole site is accessible by wheelchair and several rest stops along the way.
WE welcome ALL and with no membership fees (although a donation would be appreciated) as this may deter some from joining we want YOU to join.
Our AIM is to build up a NETWORK of members who will HELP, GUIDE and IMPROVE and ADVOCATE Birding to everyone. Where DISABILITY, COLOUR, CREED or RELIGION have no relevance in the pursuit of BIRDING.
If you can help or provide support for any birding in your area please join, Although this is no prerequisite to membership and we would like you to join.
If you would like to report on your very own local patch please feel free to contact me on the contact us page with your very own report of your reserve or local wood or anywhere you go birding. Feel free to use the above link to give us ideas or news or items you want to sell.
Any reports however small will be published on here and any I do I'll do the same.
Hi to all
My aim to provide a place to meet other birders to get out and pursue this great hobby with others helping each other with a mutual goal to expand the great past time and to increase the awareness of people who are less able to go birding by virtue of disability of circumstance.
I will endeavour to provide support and advocacy to ALL and not to be put off by others and increase this awareness.
Promote professionalism and courtesy to ALL not to INTIMIDATE others.
The promotion of disability rights are the most important aspect of the work but, as myself, I was 'able-bodied' until an unfortunate accident and have worked within Disability Employment and Placement for many years with a few of the Major companies. So understand totally the boundaries that employers put in the way of the disabled.
I am to promote, albeit, a small part of the lives of people with disabilities but hopefully a wider part of society and try to integrate ALL
I know the Disability Discrimination Act almost word for word and am able to help interpret this for any that want help. I have a degree in Law so understand the intricacies of the 'Word' of the Law
If I cannot help I have several friends and could email them for their advice.
So we are here to help. We want this to be a welcoming space on the 'interweb' no bitching or 'back biting'
We will not remove members except at the request of the member or when a member is being rude, nasty or after being reported for such and that it is investigated thoroughly. It is in the interest of all to open and frank in discussions without being discourteous or rude.
After all it is all about Birding.
I have joined the 'Birding' Webring please click on the link below and vote for this site. There are over a 150 other birding sites with loads of information for ALL Birders.
II did try to get on another webring for all you members but unfortunately the application was unsuccessful however there are more that the that so we'll have to join others. I am really happy that the membership is growing albeit slowly it will grow and I will not give up the cause
The reason for wanting to be on the web ring was to promote the ethos and ideals of the site and to help disabled and disadvantaged people get out there and go Birding. However this process has been blocked or denied. I have no explanation or reason given for this and would not want to speculate to the reason behind it. Albeit to say I have no inclination to try and register with the ring although I will endeavour to register with others to promote and grow the site to all members. There are several members online and now just gone past the 1000 mark for paper members those who have registered via mail from a mail shot some months ago.
So the membership is growing rapidly and hopefully the funding should come through from the Lottery commission which will enable me to better fulfil all member requests get out and get more members and grow the database of Reserves from around the UK. I do hope that our overseas members will make reports for their reserves or open places so that they can be included in the database too.
The ethos is to provide information about birding with disabilities introduction to like minded people with a view to help each other, to find or aid finding funding to allow us to go out birding. To provide information regarding reserves parks and other wild places about the suitability of the area for all. To promote birding to the youth of today, as the youth are tomorrows grown up birders. Provide possible equipment loan, we have a couple of pairs of bins and a couple of scopes kindly donated by Konus and Bushnell. However the fine details have to be bashed out.
I do hope that my members will appreciate my efforts to promote this site and ask for you all to help in it's promotion too.
MESSAGE FROM FOUNDER AND DISABLED BIRDER MARK SMITHSON
Have a great day and even better birding experiences
